Snow... Snow... Snow...!!!

Snow is a type of precipitation in the form of crystalline water ice, consisting of a multitude of snowflakes that fall from clouds when the temperature is below freezing point (0°C หรือ 32°F). Snow is composed of small ice particles, it has an open, and therefore, soft structure, unless packed by external pressure. Snowfall is natural but snow can also be imitated using a snow cannon.

Geometry of Snowflakes

The study by Wilson Bentley (1902) has found the 6-fold symmetry of snowflakes, which arises from the hexagonal crystal structure of ordinary ice. Ice crystal structure is thin and falt hexagons, develop branches and dendritic (fern-like) features and have six approximately identical arms. Also, there is a widely belief that no two snowflakes are alike.

Snow is white, bright, and beautiful. In addition to its natural beauty, people of all ages find snow fun and wonderful recreation, e.g., skiing, snowboarding, and snow mobiling.

While snow is beautiful, there is yet coldness and danger. Snow storm can cause damages for electricity and telecommunications, as well as avion and street communication. A mudslide, flash flood, or avalanche can occur when excessive snow has accumulated on a mountain and there is a sudden change of temperature. Large amounts of snow that accumulate on top of man-made structures can lead to structural failure.
